Our first user review is in and what a fitting place for it to come from, The Home of Golf, St. Andrews Scotland. First a little background on our reviewer, Steve K. A little over a year ago Steve’s sister walked into my place of work looking for a unique golf related gift for her brother’s birthday. At the time I was working at a large golf retailer which had all the top-of-the-line gear but nothing particularly ‘unique’. On her way out to keep looking I gave her my card and explained I am developing a line of putters that were unlike anything out there and if she wanted to come back I could show her a prototype another day. Needless to say her brother got his special birthday present and once the weather was willing here is what Steve K. had to say:
“Last weekend I got the opportunity to go to St Andrews, the home of golf. I played the New Course which is runs parallel to the Old Course which is its more famous relative. The New Course was also developed by Tom Morris and while the name suggests that this was a more recent addition it was actually built only a few years after the old course and was opened in 1895. The course was fantastic and as traditional with links courses was full of large undulating greens that are fed by very tightly trimmed fairways. This was a perfect opportunity for me to test PROTO1 and I must say it performed very well for me. I was using the original setup with the heaviest weight as conditions were cold and wet. The additional weight in the head meant that I was able to impart more pace on the ball without lengthening my swing, this was really noticeable as I watch my playing partner. As a result I was able to get good roll and pace without jeopardizing control. I was getting really good roll and with the added control I was putting the ball close with most first putts. Also in windy conditions even stood over the short putts the added weight of the head helps with a solid ball strike and I’m sure as a result I sunk much more of those tricky 6″ putts. The highlight for me came mid round where I rolled in a 15 footer to make par – what a feeling!” – Steve K.
